This one snapshot captures so much of the good stuff in my life. A piece of land that’s constantly changing, but always beautiful. A flagpole that the kids helped install that fly’s the flag of the nation that we love. A garden that requires so much tending, which has taught us so much. A green John Deere that brings a little boy so much happiness. A husband who works long, hard hours at a demanding career but who willingly comes home to turn the compost pile. And 2 kids joyfully lost in a world of play and imagination.

This mud kitchen was one of the first things I wanted to build for the kids when we moved out here. I knew they’d love it. The work of childhood is creating, imagining, and getting dirty. They do all that for hours out here. Often times, as we work out in the yard, they are close by mixing, cooking, and serving all the imaginary meals they create out of dirt, mud, and leaves.

Life out here feels full. We have so many opportunities for hard work, physical labor, stillness, play, quietness, learning, adventure, and my favorite of all...togetherness.

In this world of easy access, excessive picture taking, its easy to take for granted all the moments we get to capture. But, a snapshot like this candidly captures a simple moment that truly is the good stuff. I want to remember these simple everyday moments for all my days.
